Counseling Degree Online

Earning a counseling degree online, you would assist your clients with personal, family, educational, mental health, and career related issues.

Some areas of practice as helping people overcome addictions and substance abuse, marriage and domestic issues. To be successful, having good interpersonal and communication skills is important. You would also need to have an advanced degree (master’s or PhD) and experience.

Education and Training: Counselors generally have a first degree in areas such as psychology, sociology, or education and then have coursework in counseling, for example a Master of Science (M.S.) in Human Services - Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling/Therapy - CACREP Accredited. They are also required to have at least 600 hours of supervised clinical counseling experience. You can work as a Family and Marriage Counselor, Executive Coach, Career Counselor, or School Counseling amongst other areas

Most counseling position requires a degree in counseling, a license, and a master’s degree. In addition, all states require counselors to have a state school counseling certification and experience to work in schools. With a bachelors degree you can work as an aide. For non-school counseling jobs most states require two years of 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience beyond a master’s degree, passing an exam and completing annual continuing education requirements.

Expected Salary: The median hourly wave is $22.85 per hour, and the median salary is $47,530. The top 10% earn about $76,000 a year.
