Online Information Science Masters Degree Programs

An online information science masters degree program can be within reach for those who are interested in working in the Library and Information Science profession.

With the computer advances of today and in the future, graduate students can find themselves working in the great world with a masters of information science. This program is designated for those who have already achieved their bachelor's degree, are able to incorporate human and computer interaction, and set these ideas to regular everyday situations. Students can expect to complete prerequisites in computer networking, information literacy, and other programming courses. Every student will need their original final transcripts, scores on the general record examination or graduate management admission test, and the test of English as a foreign language for non-native English speaking students. Certain scores are recommended, but it is still up to the school to determine what score is necessary. Schools will require essays, recommendations, and some can even require a non-refundable application fee.

The goal of the Information Science masters program is to focus on important skills like: retrieving information, archives and records management, understanding and organizing information, knowledge management, information management, and information technologies for managing data.

The information science masters program is ideal for those students who are already employed as chief engineering officers, research scientists, marketing managers, and system administrators. All students are responsible for taking care of their own application and any processes that are necessary for acceptance. Students will be happy to know that the sudden increase in technology has manically increased the amount of salary for info technology managers. The average management personnel can expect a salary of $100,000 per year, with a steady 15% increase of pay rate over the next ten years. Many managers find that the more the experience, accompanied by the degree, the better the pay.

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the employment of librarians is expected to grow by 8% between 2008 and 2018, and the median annual wages of librarians in 2008 was $52,530 with the middle 50% earning between $42,240 and $65,300. It will be imperative for any potential student to pay high and close attention to the terms for the information science masters degree program in order to ensure that they get the most out of their program of study.
