The ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally is the essence of the job. The coursework centers on communication strategies, journalism, advertising, marketing, and writing. Public Relations Careers

To be successful with a career in public relations, creativity, initiative, good judgment, and good communication skills (both written and spoken) are important. It is also important to have good skills in decision making, problem solving, and research skills.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the median annual income for public relations specialists in 2008 was $51,280. The middle 50% earned between $38,400 and $71,670 while the the lowest 10% earned below $30,140. On the other hand, the top 10% earned more than $97,910.

While the field is competitive, the BLS expects jobs to grow by 24% between 2008 and 2018. This is much faster than the average for other occupations making the online public relations degree an option to consider.
