A bachelor's degree is the generally the minimum qualification required to teach in literacy and reading programs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), while specific data available for reading specialists for 2011 is not available, the median annual salary for middle school teachers was $51,960 and $53,230 for secondary schools teachers according to the most recent data.
