Athletics directors will see a 12% increase in employment. The median annual income of athletes and sports competitors in 2008 was $40,480. The middle 50% earned between $21,760 and $93,710. The highest paid professional athletes earn a lot more. Umpires and related positions earned $23,730 while coaches and scouts earned $28,340.

With an online sports management degree, those working in high schools earn about $80,000 while sports directors in colleges earn about $76,000 while coaches make about $28,000 a year. The BLS projects employment of athletes, coaches, umpires, and related workers may increase 23% between 2008 and 2018. This rate is much faster than the average for other occupations.
