Psychologists generally do not prescribe medication and that is done by the psychiatrists.

Psychology and counseling professionals held nearly 780,000 jobs in 2004 in the United States. Opportunities for psychology and counseling professionals are expected to grow exponentially in the coming decade. While no program can guarantee positions or salaries, psychology degrees online and those in counseling continue to be the important in many industries and work settings. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the employment of psychologists is expected to grow 12% between 2008 and 2018.

Salaries for psychology vary by where they work and what they do as well as specializations in psychology degrees online or on-campus. These include college professors, counselors, psychologists, social workers etc. The BLS also reports that the median annual wages income for clinical, counseling, and school psychologists was $64,140 in 2008 with a middle 50% range of $48,700 and $82,800. The median annual income for industrial-organizational psychologists was $77,010 during the same time period, where the middle 50% earned between $54,100 and $115,720.
