Dubai low-cost airline flydubai announced today a 27-billion-USD bond commitment for the purchase of 225 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to support the continued growth of its fleet. This is the third order placement with Boeing for 8 years of the airline’s history and follows orders in 2008 and 2013. The purchasing of 225 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will ensure the continued development of the airline within a geographical radius with a coverage of up to 2.5 billion people living in it.
To date, the airline flydubai fleet consists of 61 Boeing 737-800 Next-Generation and Boeing 737 MAX 8. In addition, 97 aircraft are in the queue for delivery until 2023.
“Today’s order emphasizes the success of the vision behind flydubai, as well as the expanded opportunities for interconnections through the Dubai aviation hub”, said the Chairman of flydubai, Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. “Glydubai contributes to the development of trade and tourism in the cities of its route network. In less than a decade the airline expanded its network to 97 destinations in 44 countries. We look forward to delivering new aircraft from 2019. These new aircraft will help in the realization of our ambitions for the future”, added he.
Together with today’s order, the airline flydubai expects delivery of total 320 aircraft.
“Today opens a new chapter in the success story of flydubai”, said the CEO of the airline flydubai, Ghaith Al Ghaith. “Since our launch in 2009, we have opened flights to 67 destinations, previously experiencing a shortage of direct flights to Dubai. We welcome the continuation of our long-term cooperation with Boeing. We ordered this model of the aircraft, because aircraft of this family have provided us with adaptability and flexibility for the transportation of 44 million passengers since the launch of the airline”, added he.
Flydubai was founded in 2008 with the aim of expanding opportunities for travel, trade and tourism within the range of the Boeing 737-800 Next-Generation and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
