Boeing 737-500 of the Belarusian airline Belavia skidded off the runway at the Kiev airport Borispol. The aircraft was landing in adverse weather conditions.
The aircraft commander eliminated the sideway dodging effect after which the aircraft continued to move along the runway to its parking spot. The aircraft sustained minor damage. None of the passengers and crew members were injured.
“During the run, after landing, the Belavia aircraft shot down the lights. We closed the runway for a while in order to clear it”, said Pavel Ryabikin, airport director. “As a result, the liner has a damaged nose, no other damage”, Ryabikin added. The director of the airport also said that the plane belonged to the Belarusian airline and the Belarusian side would find out the reasons for the incident.
“At the time of emergency, there was a tense period in the work of Kiev airport Borispol”, said Pavel Ryabikin, adding that 11 aircraft were redirected to other airports.
According to the portal, some flights were cancelled at the airport. A number of aircraft were redirected to Kiev’s Zhulyany airport, as well as to the airports of Lviv, Kharkov and Odessa.
“After landing in adverse weather conditions, the aircraft performing the flight B2 845 on route Minsk – Kyiv on December 9, 2018, hit the ground [outside runway] with its starboard landing gear”, said the airline’s press service
