Several US airlines plan to comply with the requirements of China and start on their Internet sites and in promotional materials to designate Taiwan, as a province of China.
According to the information, the concerned airlines are: American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. As expected, they will begin to introduce changes related to the designation of Taiwan within the next few days.
In April, Chinese authorities sent mail to around 40 foreign air carriers, including American ones, letters demanding to change their websites and advertising materials to designate Taiwan in accordance with the provisions of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Beijing, in particular, insisted that air carriers use the name “Chinese Taiwan” or “Chinese province of Taiwan”. In addition, the CHinese authorities demanded that airlines on maps located on their websites designate mainland China and Taiwan in one color and do not distinguish the island as a separate territorial entity not related to the PRC.
Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek, defeated in the civil war with the Chinese Communists, fled to this Chinese island. In China, Taiwan is considered its province and are seeking reunification.
