The Russian airline Aeroflot sanctioned a client who went viral on social media last week by sharing his story about how he had tricked the company into bringing his cat on board, whose weight exceeded the allowed limit.
As a punitive measure, Aeroflot annulled Mikhail Galin all his accumulated miles and expelled him from the loyalty program, Moskvá news agency reported Tuesday, citing the airline’s press service.
The company claims that it has carried out an official investigation, which showed that the man “committed a series of serious violations of baggage transport rules.”
From the airline’s press service they specified that, in accordance with their regulations, animals weighing more than eight kilograms must be transported in the aircraft hold, while pets allowed on board have to remain in the transport for the entire flight.
For his part, Galin “intentionally violated” both regulations and also boasted about that on his Instagram account.
“According to his message on social networks, to pass the record he replaced a cat that weighed more than 8 kilograms with another similar animal, but that weighed 7 kilograms. This information is confirmed by recording surveillance cameras,” Aeroflot said.
Noting that for security reasons the company “adheres to strict discipline at all stages of the flight”.
The controversy surrounding the 10-kiloby Victor cat began after its owner told online how he managed to take him aboard despite the airline’s bans.
According to Galin, he tried to make the managers understand that his pet would not survive at eight hours of the Moscow-Vladivostok (Russia) flight in the baggage hold, but these remained in his decision.
In a new post uploaded on Monday, the man said he has no complaints against the company and admitted that during turbulence and at the time of a possible evacuation of passengers, in case of emergency, even two extra kilos of luggage can be “critical”.
At the same time, Galin said that due to the poor health of his pet “he had no moral right” to have her travel in the cellar.
